Apply for a mortgage

Whether you are buying your first or fifth home, or switching from your current lender, look no further than Alliance & Leicester to apply for a mortgage. As one of the UK’s established lenders, we know the ins and outs of providing a range of options designed to suit your needs.

If you are looking to apply for a mortgage, we make it easy for you to research our range of mortgages online, and help you find the mortgage to suit your needs.

When you apply for a mortgage with Alliance & Leicester, you can apply for a mortgage by phone or visit your local Alliance & Leicester branch and speak to a mortgage advisor. Please note that our mortgages are available to UK residents only aged 18 or over and subject to a valuation. At Alliance & Leicester, we understand that moving home can be stressful so we aim to make the application process simple and hassle free.

Applying for your mortgage is easy - use our mortgage Quick Quote calculator to understand the monthly payments, full costs and benefits of the mortgages we have to offer. Then, if you wish to apply for one of our mortgage offers, you'll be able to confirm and select the one you want to apply for as part of the mortgage application. Before you start completing our mortgage application, don’t forget to have to hand certain details which you’ll need to provide. We’ll tell you what you need to have ready at the beginning of the application.

When you have finalised your property search and have formally applied for a mortgage, we will then arrange for a valuation of the property to ensure that it is suitable security for your mortgage. Dependent on the type of mortgage you apply for, you may be eligible for a free Basic Mortgage Valuation .

Once we have processed your mortgage application, subject to acceptance, we will write to you to confirm the specific details of your mortgage offer and explain the terms and conditions of your new mortgage.

The final stage in setting up your mortgage is the legal work. Once a solicitor has taken care of all the legal work, a completion date will be agreed and then your mortgage application will be complete. Some of our mortgages may entitle you to take advantage of our free Mortgage Transfer Service*, which takes care of the legal administration work and costs when you transfer your mortgage to us from your current lender.
