Switching your account is easy
With our Switching Service we can:
- transfer your direct debits and standing orders to your new Alliance & Leicester account;
- arrange for your main salary or other income to be paid to your new Alliance & Leicester account, if you choose this; and
- we will help you to close your existing account and transfer your funds to your new Alliance & Leicester account, if this applies.
We guarantee you will not have to pay any overdraft fees on your Alliance & Leicester account for three months during the switching process even if your account goes overdrawn.
Plus, by using our free Switching Service you have access to some great extra benefits.
- We can match the overdraft limit you had with your old bank (depending on your circumstances).
- We will guarantee, for three months, no overdraft fees while you are using the service, even if you go overdrawn beyond your overdraft limit.
- If you didn't have an overdraft facility with your old bank and you are a Premier customer, we may offer you an overdraft if you ask (depending on your circumstances).
Using the Switching Service is easy. Simply follow the steps below.
Step 1 - Current account application
Simply say on your current account application that you want us to switch your account for you and give us your existing current account details. You won’t need to provide any details of your direct debits or standing orders.
Step 2 – Leave the rest to us
We will do the following;
Transfer direct debits and standing orders to your new account
- We will contact your old bank to get a list of your direct debits and standing order payments. Your bank must provide this information within three working days.
- We will then send the list to you. You do not need to do anything, unless there are transactions that you do not want us to transfer.
- We will confirm to you when the standing orders and bill payments have been set up on your new account.
- We will tell the direct debit companies to collect payments from your new account.
If you choose to arrange for your main salary or other income to be paid into your new account, we will:
- Contact your employer to arrange for your salary to be paid into your new account, before we give your new account details to the companies you pay by direct debit.
- If you have asked us to switch your salary or pension and you do not have an overdraft limit, we will look at your salary/pension credit date to make sure that there is enough time to complete the switch before you receive your next salary or pension payment.
- We will send you instructions that you can pass to your old bank if you want to transfer funds.
If you choose to close your old bank account once the transfer is complete, we will:
Send you a letter to sign and forward to your old bank (if you asked us to).
Step 3 – Confirmation
